Blue Ice Blue Star or Amsonia is an erect, clump-forming plant. It produces pyramidal clusters of star-like, dark lavender-blue flowers. The 5-petaled, 3/4 in. blooms open in late spring atop leafy stems reaching 12 in. to 15 in. Taller plants tend to topple over in the shade and appreciate receiving some staking support. Its narrow, dark green foliage resembles that of a willow and turns bright yellow in fall.
